Metronidazole tablets USP, 250 mg or 500 mg is an oral formulation of the synthetic nitroimidazole antimicrobial, which has the following structural formula:
Metronidazole tablets USP contain 250 mg or 500 mg of Metronidazole. Inactive ingredients include colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and stearic acid.
Indications:
Metronidazole is the medicine of choice for symtopmatic intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis as well as infections with Trichomonas vaginalis and Giardia lamblia. It is quickly and reliably effective against Gardnerella vaginosis.
Contra-indications:
Hypersensitivity to metronidazole. Safety in pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
Patients with blood dyscrasias or with active disease of the central nervous system.
Shelf life: 2 years.
