Seventeen participants were randomized in a double-blind study involving dietary supplementation with Lutein (15 mg), alpha-tocopherol (100 mg), or placebo, three times a week for up to two years. 1 Visual performance, acuity and glare sensitivity were measured as parameters of vision health. In all parameters measured, subjects that consumed the Lutein had significant improvements in vision health when compared to the other groups.
In another recent placebo-controlled study, Lutein resulted in a significant improvement in eye pigment and optical density when compared to the placebo. 2 The Lutein groups also significantly improved their visual acuity when compared to placebo.
