3. Indications: | Ceftriaxone is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible micro-organisms: Lower respiratory tract infections Genitor-urinary tract infections Gynecological infections, including pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis and pelvic cellulitis. Bacteremia and septicemia Skin &skin structure infections Intra-abdominal infections Bone and/or joint infections Central nervous system injections e. G. Meningitis Pre-operatively in patients undergoing surgical procedures(abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy, that may be classified as contaminated or potentially contaminated) |
4. Contraindication | Ceftriaxone injection is contraindicated in neonates if they require (or are expected to require) treatment with calcium-containing IV solutions, including continuous calcium-containing infusions such as parenteral nutrition because of the risk of precipitation of ceftriaxone-calcium. |
5.Adverse Effects: | Hypoprothrombinaemia and bleeding are specific side effects. Haemolysis is reported. Biliary sludging is another known though rare adverse effect which occurs primarily in neonates. |
6.Drug Interactions: | Ceftriaxone can interact with a number of medicines. Drugs that can interact with ceftriaxone include, but are not limited to, the following: Warfarin, Probenecid, Sulfinpyrazone, Calcium. |
